How Stealth VPN, ad blocking, IPv6, protocols and the kill switch work.
Stealth VPN is our obfuscation mode. It disguises VPN traffic so that it looks like ordinary encrypted web traffic, which defeats the deep packet inspection that some networks and countries use to detect and block VPNs. Switch it on in the Windows, macOS or Linux app when a connection is being blocked. Server locations that support it are tagged on the locations page.
The ad blocker is part of the VPN connection itself: ad and tracker requests are blocked at the network level inside the tunnel before they reach your device, so it works in every browser and in most Android and iOS apps without installing anything extra. Use a server location tagged with the ad blocker on the locations page and it is on; pick another location to turn it off.
Yes. Our network is dual stack: both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic travel inside the encrypted tunnel, and IPv6 websites see our serverâs address, not yours. Many providers tunnel only IPv4 and leave IPv6 traffic exposed, which is a common source of leaks. You can verify it on our IP and leak test page while connected.
Every server supports OpenVPN and WireGuard, which our apps use under the hood, plus Stealth VPN obfuscation and alternative ports for networks that block the standard ones. Every account also includes HTTP proxy access, used by the Chrome and Firefox extensions. No. There is no data cap, no speed cap and no throttling on any plan, on any server, for any kind of traffic including streaming and torrents. The only limits are physical: the server you choose and the speed of your own connection. For the fastest results connect to a nearby location, use WireGuard, and look for servers on 1 Gbps links on the locations page.
Yes. On Windows, macOS and Linux, turn on Kill switch in Settings âș General: it blocks internet traffic whenever the VPN is not connected. On iPhone and iPad, switch on Kill Switch in Settings; it applies from your next connection. On Android, the app uses the system kill switch: tap âAlways-on VPN & kill switchâ in Settings âș Connection, then enable âBlock connections without VPNâ. It is off by default. Fire TV has no kill switch.
